Client: Murray Pest Control
Project: Office Refurbishment. New Entry, Outdoor Area and Internal Fitout
Location: 6 Greenhill Road Unley SA 5034
Approx Cost: $955k
At the western end of Greenhill road, on the outer limits of the city square, a thin 930m² site remained waiting for an extensive makeover.
A commercial refurbishment that had an open brief and an allowance to be creative; the Murray Pest Control project utilised Bryant Concepts Architectural expertise and experience to transform a congested office block into a practical, commercial team environment.
With much to be demolished, the façade was to become a much more unique and individual attribute and internal plans were drawn up to utilise the 60m length of the site with improved efficiency.
Externally, major and minor canopies were erected above the entrance - their curved and dominant style was designed as a feature of the front façade which is easily identifiable. Materials were vital to build a strong identity for the building, so the canopies were enclosed with a copper coloured Alucobond cladding which heightened visibility and captured interest. The entry also incorporated two large expressed fins of the same, bold nature, in order to help generate balance within the structure.
The side and rear walls were treated with a rendered finish and painted to revitalise the general appearance of the building. The light finish contrasted wonderfully with the copper Alucobond used on the façade. The rear of the development was particularly creative; bracing, fabricated out of steel rods, separated by Alucobond clad columns generating an outdoor enclosure - covered by a canvas sail shade. The sail is fastened using circular steel columns and plates, protruding from the centre of the columns.
High-energy efficiency, commercial grade glazing has been installed in powder coated, aluminium window frames throughout the office - this maintains the fresh tone of the building internally and compliments the steel Alucobond cladding externally. The louvres have a similar finish to the frames so that the exterior looks clean and refined to the smallest detail. The open area screening, flashings, rainheads and downpipes also support this notion with selections to match wall cladding around the exterior of the building.
The ground floor introduced a reception with waiting area, two closed office areas and an open office with kitchen and amenities. There are two stair accesses to the first floor; one integrates a balcony over looking the entry and the other provides easy access to a new outdoor area. Along with the inclusion of the 125m² paved bbq area, the first level also features a boardroom, closed office, open office area, kitchen and amenities. The internal alterations were marked by completely refurbished male and female bathrooms on both levels and an interior concept that enhances the open nature of the design.
Light finishes have been carried through office areas and, where appropriate, full height glass has been used to further reinforce the feeling of space. The development allocates employee car parking at the rear of the facility, accessed via two existing driveways.
